Championship of Latvia for youth in 10x10 draughts
The competition for prizes was held in the most important tournament of the year for youth in 10x10 draughts - the Latvian Championship.
In the finals of the classic program (thinking time 1h + 30 sec) and Blitz tournament (5 min + 3 sec) of the Latvian Youth Championship, participants, boys and girls, competed in age groups U-8, U-10, U-13, U-16 and U-19.
The competition took place from August 5 to 9 in Riga, in the premises of Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga. The main goal of the Latvian Championship was to popularize 100 squares draughta in Latvia, as well as to find the best Latvian draughts players.
In total, more than 100 of the best young people, representing all the strongest draughts centers in Latvia, competed for the title of champion.
Vladislavs Vesperis, Chairman of the Board of the Latvian Draughts Federation, emphasized:" After successful Latvian Youth Championship in 64 squares draughts, we start next Latvian Youth Championship, this time in 100 squares draughts. It is a great joy to see that children already from the age of 6 participate in the finals of the Latvian Championship, which is a confirmation of the LDF's vision of the usefulness of training in draughts and its results already at early age. I wish all the young players good luck and athletic fighting spirit. May the best win!"
Prizes for the winners of the competition were provided by Xnet.lv, the association Prāta Attīstības centrs and Prāta Laiks.
